Welcome to Designed by Sam

I am Samantha Townsend, a textile artist living in Scotland, with a degree in 3D Design and Craft from Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen. Although starting out as a jeweller, after learning patchworking and quilting around 20 years ago this has become more than a hobby; it’s now my passion and career. I love creating art quilts with different themes, my current being birds.

I discovered, through working with Gillian Cooper teaching on City & Guilds courses in Patchwork and Quilting, my enthusiasm for teaching and sharing my knowledge. I have recently taken over teaching these courses myself. Additionally, I provide a variety of other courses, workshops and talks in person to groups.
